What inspired you to start your business?

My entire life I lived to teach, inspire, transform, motivate, empower, lead, and show people how truly great they are and how great they can be. Almost 30 years ago, I began as a school teacher in lockdown facilities and jails while teaching fitness classes after school. I then became a life coach and led several transformational seminars and workshops. In 1998, I opened my South Beach Boxing gym and was able to combine all my passions into one business and be fully self-expressed and fulfilled.

What is one hard lesson you’ve learned in business you believe has been most valuable?

With business comes problems. Don’t be shocked or surprised by them, just solve them strategically and fully do your research and ask a ton of questions. Don’t take shortcuts (don’t have your electrician do the plumbing!) You always want to make sure whomever you hire for a specific job is an expert and professional in that area.

If I asked one of your clients why they choose you over other trainers, what would they likely say?

I (and my gym/team) have the best energy ever. I always make them feel better, they always feel so much stronger and feel like they can take on their life with so much more passion, honor, strength and integrity because of me. They no longer make excuses for why they can’t have anything and everything they want. I help them create ways to figure it out and get it. They’d express I have changed their life.

Name one or two ways you are trying to raise the bar in the industry.

I try to raise the bar by educating, teaching, inspiring and transforming myself and my entire team. This, in turn, educates, teaches, inspires, transforms and truly serves my members. I teach people to truly serve (build rapport, be relatable, and truly deliver results); to be real and authentic; to be an innovator and creator - not a copier; and to educate people that not all gyms are created equal. My team and I truly teach and serve. My entire franchise model is “I teach teams, that teach teams, that transform lives; in turn, I’ll be transforming the world.” I live by the motto from Jim Rohn, “Work harder on yourself than you do on your job and life becomes easier.”
