Minnesota School of Business/Globe College (MSB/GC) announced today a new Bachelor of Science program that is one of the first college accredited degrees in the exercise industry exclusively for personal trainers. Purdue University has been credited with the first major university to offer a program geared towards personal training; now, MSB/GC, which has seven campuses within Minnesota (www.msbcollege.edu), is jointing those ranks.

MSB/GCs program was designed for the professional personal trainer who wants to expand his or her market of options and become better prepared to handle both healthy and unhealthy populations said Keith Spennewyn, Program Director and author for the new Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) Bachelor of Science Degree for personal trainers. We intend to provide the best education and training for our HFS students said Spennewyn.

The HFS program is designed to create high-level exercise specialists with many career options within the fitness training industry Spennewyn states.  Early in the program students will learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and weight loss techniques, plus they will study kinesiology, biomechanics, fitness analysis, injury management, special populations, and exercise prescription. Toward the end of their program, students will learn special population nutrition, clinical stretching, cardiac rehabilitation, muscle activation techniques and many diverse applications including child fitness, resistance training, functional training, balance and gait assessment, online personal training, web design, marketing and research techniques.

Spennewyn expects that HFS students will gain a great deal of experience as they learn wellness techniques, corporate fitness and clinical fitness programming.  Another important aspect of the HFS program at MSB/GC is the partnerships with industry leaders who will provide essential externship training and post-graduate employment opportunities. He anticipates that the HFS program will grow rapidly, especially with endorsements from leaders in the business such as Lifetime Fitness.

In todays health, wellness and exercise industries, it is critical for personal trainers to pursue a bachelors degree in order to keep pace with this dynamic market. While the certification and diploma curricula, which is used by many colleges and organizations, contributes to the credentialing of personal trainers, MSB/GCs Health Fitness Specialist program will help to ensure the continued growth of professional personal trainers by providing a higher level of knowledge, skills and accountability.

For over 120 years, MSB/GC has successfully educated Minnesotas workforce by providing students with associate, bachelor and graduate degrees to further advance their problem-solving and decision-making skills while developing career-specific competencies.
