|The first ever comprehensive study on weightlifting injuries is out and it shows a surprising trend: injuries are up significantly among teenage girls. |
Results from the study, led by researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, were recently published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Researchers estimate that nearly a million people, of all ages, went to emergency departments over an 18-year period because of weightlifting injuries. But it was the 143% increase in injuries to teenage girls that is raising some eyebrows.
