The first ever comprehensive study on weightlifting injuries is out and it shows a surprising trend: injuries are up significantly among teenage girls. Results from the study, led by researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, were recently published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Researchers estimate that nearly a million people, of all ages, went to emergency departments over an 18-year period because of weightlifting injuries. But it was the 143% increase in injuries to teenage girls that is raising some eyebrows.
