The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) and Les Mills International (LMI) have announced a formal alliance with the mission of helping to promote and build the health and fitness industry internationally. The announcement was made on March 8 at the IHRSA International Convention & Trade Show in San Diego.

LMI, based in New Zealand, will be actively involved in promoting IHRSA's fitness and educational trade events internationally. IHRSA and LMI will co-host a US-based series of educational events that emphasize club retention strategies.

Says key fitness industry business coach and Fitness Business Radio host Tom Perkins, "From an attraction and retention point of view, this partnership between IHRSA and Les Mills will be good for the health club or gym. The reputable and exciting Les Mills programming will be an attraction for new and existing members the programming is top notch it gets results and it's fun; members love the workouts! It may also be enough to keep existing members. I respect Les Mills for all they have done and realize there are a number of programs in their programming for all to enjoy.

Just like any industry, it's another consolidation. However, competition is good because it gives you an opportunity for comparison. I do hope that IHRSA will promote other programming as well to keep IHRSA club members' options open."
