Book publisher Human Kinetics recently recognized Dr. Thomas R. Baechle, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, for his outstanding writing achievements in sport and exercise science.  Dr. Baechle was presented with a special award to commemorate his remarkable milestone of selling more than 500,000 copies of his various publications.  Breaking the 500,000-copy mark is a testament to Dr. Baechles authorship and editorship of numerous Human Kinetics publications.

Dr. Baechle has authored, coauthored or edited 12 books that have been translated into 10 languages and been adopted for use by hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States.  His successful publications include two editions of the Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, one edition of the NSCA's Essentials of Personal Training, two editions of Strength Training Past 50, three editions of Weight Training Steps to Success and two editions of Fitness Weight Training, among others.


Dr. Baechles accomplishments as an author are an important part of his contributions to strength training and conditioning and personal training.  In addition to his writing achievements, Dr. Baechle competed in Olympic-style weightlifting and powerlifting, was an instructor of weight training and was a strength and conditioning coach for 20 years.  He is a professor and chair of the exercise science and athletic training department at Creighton University.  He is a cofounder and past president of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and for 20 years was the executive director of the NSCA Certification Commission.

Dr. Baechle has been recognized as the force behind the creation of the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) exam programs.  He has received the NSCAs most coveted awards, including Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year and the NSCA Lifetime Achievement Award.  Dr. Baechle also served as president of the National Organization of Competency Assurance and has served on various other regional, national and international boards.
